Investment Project Lead - Life Sciences
Salary range: $80,595 - $95,000, AMAPCEO Level 7
Location: 250 Yonge Street, Toronto ON (hybrid –3 days per week in office)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are seeking a dynamic individual for the role of 'Investment Project Lead - Life Sciences'. This is a key position with a high level of responsibility, internal visibility, and impact. This is a unionized position represented by AMAPCEO. High-level responsibilities include:
- Serving as the primary face-to the- investor on individual investment opportunities.
- Leading multi-functional teams formed on an investment-by-investment basis to service and secure strategic investment leads.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Investment Attraction, Negotiations and Decision-making Support
Secures large-scale strategic investments:
- Works with Executive Directors and sector stakeholders to generate leads and develop strategic investment opportunities.
- Positions Ontario to secure new investment by understanding client operations, costs structures, and investment need.
- Conveys the short and long-term financial, operational, and strategic benefits of investing in Ontario.
- Articulates a strong value proposition and supports the client or investor throughout the decision-making process.
- Recognizes patterns to interpret implications, ascertain solutions and make recommendations.
- Ensures an exceptional investor experience.
- Leverages relevant resources and expertise (Invest Ontario/provincial and federal government/ecosystem partners) to support investor engagement and to close investment deals.
- Serves as primary client interface, cultivating strategic relationships across all levels and relevant functions in the client organization.
- Observes, identifies, and organizes information to detect underlying issues related to access and/or delivery of investor services
- Works with prospective investors to provide a customized and coordinated suite of supports.
- Supports the preparation of materials used in investment attractions and decision-making, including investment memoranda, board presentations, and pitchbooks.
- Negotiates term sheets.
- Finalizes and executes investment funding contract agreements, providing transitional support for announcements and administration of project
Program Development and Project Management
Leads multi-functional teams formed on an investment-by-investment basis to service and secure strategic investment leads. Teams may include members from across the agency, provincial government, and other levels of government:
- Leverages programs and expertise (Invest Ontario/provincial and federal government/ecosystem partners) to support investor engagement and to close investment deals.
- Ensures consistent and clear communication between internal and external stakeholders.
- Develops strong, cooperative relationships with internal and external partners, investors, and colleagues to build long term relationships that foster collaboration and partnership.
- Enables business and investor access to government services, programs, business intelligence, competitor jurisdictions, term sheet development, investment partnership liaison, infrastructure and site selection, talent and human capital programs, permit and regulation liaison, and financial supports, assessment and analysis.
Sector Expertise
Collaborates internally to provide company and sectoral insights:
- Supports translating needs to competitive term sheets, negotiations, and an overall smooth execution of end-to-end account management processes.
- Monitors domestic and international developments that impact investment in the sector targets
Stakeholder Relationships
- Promotes relationships with targeted firms to enlist engagement and linkages across corporate structures, from CEOs and VP’s to plant management and staff.
- Develops consultation frameworks and plans; co-ordinates and leads consultation processes related to specific investment opportunities.
- Advises and consults with key influencers regarding specific investments in Ontario's key sectors and secures support in identifying and securing leads.
- Links investors with local networks and innovation ecosystems
WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Education and Experience
- University degree in a related field. MBA is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in business development role.
- PMP designation from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proven ability to develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy from concept to closure.
- Brings an established network and credibility as a sector or industry leader with deep knowledge of emerging trends, business models, investment mandates, and priorities in one of three key sectors, Advanced Manufacturing, Life Sciences, or Technology.
- Deep knowledge and understanding of the capital markets, as well as a thorough understanding of key metrics and decision-making factors for companies in the industry.
- Understands the ecosystem and market both in Ontario, and internationally and stays apprised of current developments and future trends.
- Understanding of the site selection process and different site score models
- A strong understanding of macroeconomics, markets trends, competitor activities, industry dynamics, logistics and customer trends in the sector.
- Ability to organize and track overlapping tasks, with frequent priority changes and aggressive timelines.
- Ability to process and assess large amounts of information.
- Has a solution-oriented mindset.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Entrepreneurial with a client-minded focus.
- Technical proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and work-specific software.
